Academic specialties of faculty
A few years ago, NYU Stern launched EFL to attract and support massively scalable tech and life science startups from around the world to remove the barriers that entrepreneurs face while commercializing their ideas. EFL seeks novel scientific or tech innovations that represent a substantial departure from the state of the art; the 9-month rigorous program helps founders transform technical solutions into societal impact. Within five years of founding, EFL startups have gone on to raise over $1B in venture capital as of May 2022; the EFL program already counts a Unicorn among its ranks. Founding EFL Director Deepak Hedge teaches a companion MBA course as part of EFL that was chosen as the 2022 winner of the Innovation in Entrepreneurship Pedagogy Award from the Academy of Management Entrepreneurship Division.
NYU Stern's Entrepreneurs Challenge, hosted by the School's Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship, is the single largest entrepreneurship initiative at NYU. Since 2008, nearly $3?million has been awarded to winners of the competition.
NYU Stern has 14 Centers & Initiatives including its Center for Sustainable Business, Fubon Center for Technology, Business and Innovation, and Chao-Hon Chen Institute for Global Real Estate Finance.
NYU Stern was the first top business school to establish an MBA specialization in FinTech.

Invest NYC SDG Initiative x PACE:
NYU Stern CSB hosted the Spring 2022 Sustainable Business Pitch Competition, sponsored by Eddie Stern, which challenged MBA students to build the business case for banks to take a more proactive role in the decarbonization of NYC?s built environment by offering and encouraging property assessed clean energy (PACE) loans. The Invest NYC SDG Initiative is supporting a robust Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) lending program to increase critical energy efficiency retrofits, create thousands of green jobs, and advance the largest opportunity to reduce carbon in NYC. Our team has worked closely with the Mayor?s Office of Sustainability and Environmental Justice (MOCEJ) under an MOU, as well as the NYC Energy Efficiency Corporation (NYCEEC) to develop an innovative data tool to help prioritize outreach to underlying mortgage lenders of buildings subject to Local Law 97, which mandates greenhouse gas emission reductions and penalties for 28,000 buildings. The tool gathers public data on building size, emissions, mortgage lien holder, and if and when it will be subject to fines. The initiative aims to leverage the tool to demonstrate the aggregate potential cost of noncompliance to organizations with large portfolios.

Return on Sustainability Investment (ROSITM) methodology in Food & Agriculture:
The food and agriculture industry increasingly faces material environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues including climate change-induced extreme weather events, pollution, ecosystem impacts and water scarcity. Building on work in the apparel industry, NYU Stern CSB is developing a Food and Agriculture Sustainability Strategies Framework that identifies sustainability strategies and their related practices and develops monetization frameworks to demonstrate the financial benefits of sustainability investments in the industry. Inputs into the framework include food and agriculture-focused ROSI projects and case studies completed by CSB research staff. These projects include Deforestation-free Beef in Brazil and Sustainability-Focused Mars Supply Chains, as well as CSB grant-funded projects funded by HSBC, including partnerships with ABinBev, Ingredion, & Hero Group on developing ROSI case studies in sustainable agriculture. Individually-funded ROSI projects for various companies include Cargill and InvestIndustrial providing full or partial sustainability benefit assessments, monetization metrics and models for companies.
School's environmental commitment 3:
NYU Stern CSB?s Annual Practice Forum:
The NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business Annual Practice Forum is a unique convening of corporate sustainability and investor communities to discuss how companies can better measure and monetize their sustainability performance. The 2022 Practice Forum, The Financial Case for Return on Sustainability Investment: Measure, Market and Monetize Sustainability, took place virtually on March 24th and 25th, 2022 and attracted more than 1,300 finance, corporate, academic and non-profit professionals working in sustainable business around the world. The 2022 hands-on exchange of the latest research and innovation in corporate sustainability focused on the vision of creating a better world through better business. Highlights include: Decarbonizing NYC's Built Environment: an expert panel on challenges and opportunities created by the NYC Climate Mobilization Act and clean energy lending programs and The Value of Sustainable Agriculture Investments Across the Value Chain: a presentation of CSB's hallmark Return on Sustainability Investment (ROSI?) research through case studies on the financial benefits of investment in sustainable agriculture. CSB will host it?s 2023 Annual Practice Forum in March 2023.
