Academics
For students who don’t like to limit themselves, Manhattanville College provides “endless opportunities to find your passion and get involved.” Undergraduates take comfort from the institution’s carefully fostered “communal environment” and the “close-knit relationships” this leads to. They also freely capitalize on the college’s “diverse course selection,” and the way both the academics and school provide “many connections for internships and jobs” while also serving to “help you build your portfolio as a young professional.” Students are fairly quick to give credit where it’s due, praising professors who often act as “amazing resources” and generally “bring a lot of expertise into their classrooms.” In particular, those at Manhattanville appreciate that professors strive to “teach in a way that makes learning interesting and fun.” It’s no wonder, then, that students actually seem eager to take difficult courses, knowing they’ll be backed up by a faculty member who is “very personable and clearly communicates that they are here to help their students and facilitate their success.” Based on the feedback we’ve seen, it’s clear that “no matter what the students need, there is always an office, a person, or department ready, willing, and able to help out.” Considering all that, it’s no wonder that one undergrad describes time spent at Manhattanville as a “challenging but stressless experience.”
Student Body
Manhattanville undergrads seem to pride themselves on the school’s “very diverse” community. As one student immediately explains, “I have made friends from all different backgrounds, states, and countries.” Just as critically, people here are “willing to embrace different cultures, ethnicities, sexualities and personality types.” While a few individuals do note that the “student body is somewhat divided into athletes and non-athletes,” others insist that “it’s easy to meet people and make friends.” By and large, students say their classmates “genuinely care about everyone’s well being” and are “willing to help you when you need.” And it’s certainly common to encounter a “friendly face” as you walk across campus. The vast majority of students are also “very hardworking” and extremely “passionate about their education and extracurriculars.” Indeed, “they know the fields they want to be in and strive to achieve their goals.” One individual further elaborates, “I also describe them as warriors who don’t give up once they reach a failure; they keep on going no matter the road ahead.” As this undergrad concludes, “Everyone I’ve met is so kind and passionate and talented; it’s a great environment to be in.”
Campus Life
At Manhattanville, there’s tons of fun to be had both in and out of the classroom. To begin with, sports are certainly very popular, and you’ll find that the “majority of students attend athletic events to support their fellow Valiants.” Many people also participate in intramurals for rugby, volleyball and dodgeball (among others). But don’t fret if you’re not particularly sporty; there are plenty of other ways to get involved, whether that’s participating in the active student government, joining the Finance Society, working on the Manhattanville Video Project, or joining a cultural institution like the Latin American Student Association. One particular highlight is the Sister Mary T. Clark Center for Religion and Social Justice, “where students often will go just to be around the positive energy.” Additionally, “a cappella and performance opportunities [abound]” and the college sponsors numerous events such as Fall Fest, a family weekend “with rides, food, and plenty of entertainment” as well as Quad Jam, a music festival with “food trucks, student performances, and a headliner performance such as We The Kings and Lupe Fiasco.” Once the weekend rolls around, it’s fairly common for undergrads to head off campus—free transportation both to White Plains and New York City doesn’t hurt. “There’s something for everyone; you just have to be ambitious enough to find exactly what it is you like to do.”
