Academics

The “gorgeous campus” at the University of Missouri is filled with “a diverse group of students who are eager to learn and a staff that is eager to teach them.” The school is all about “learning while networking,” and the administration always has an ear to the students. “When we say there is a problem, it gets fixed,” one student says. Mizzou takes pride in tradition, which is to be found “in all aspects that involve the University name,” which makes for “a campus full of pride and spirit.” There is a “constant focus on beautification, which makes for a great campus,” and “top-of-the-line facilities” are available to all. One of the university’s greatest strengths is its dependability: “From mass emails to mass texts, if there is an issue anywhere on campus you will know about it.”

Professors teach “comprehensive courses” and “are always available to answer a question”; “even with large classes they are very attentive to individuals.” “I’ve always had professors who have had a million ways to explain any given theory, problem, or question,” says a student. The school boasts one of the country’s best and most “intense” journalism schools (nursing is also a strong suit), and there are tons of “participation opportunities” for whatever area you choose to study. Classes may be hard, but “good grades are attainable.” In addition to the “quality” academics, the advising system is “great,” and Mizzou sets itself as a real model for its students: “It is always striving to achieve better, and not in just one specific category or area, but all around.” “I came into college undecided and wanted to have plenty of options and opportunities to decide on a major,” says a student of her reasoning for choosing Mizzou.

Student Body

The school has a giant spectrum of diversity, meaning “everyone is different. Anyone could fit in and find a group here.” If a typical student has to be defined, most here are “friendly, outgoing, social, [and] very involved.” Most of all, they are “proud to be Tiger[s].” “We all fit in because we have this in common,” says a student. “It’s pretty great company.” “Classes have always felt like big families,” and the majority of students find friends “by joining one of our million organizations,” which is a common pastime among this “on-the-go” group. As everyone is “pretty easygoing and easy to get along with,” “fitting in is easy; you just act like yourself!”

Campus Life

“There is never a dull moment to be had” at the University of Missouri. All athletic events are “heavily attended,” especially football and basketball. Everyone walks or bikes everywhere in Columbia “because it’s such a pedestrian friendly place,” and “there are plenty of opportunities to chill out downtown.” It is “the perfect mixture of small town and big city,” and local attractions include a mall, small shops, micro-breweries, and tons of parks and hiking trails. If you’re used to bigger cities, then it also happens to be located between Kansas City and St. Louis. “Best of both worlds!” says a student. The school has “a huge Greek life,” and “it’s a pretty close community.” “Students enjoy going to off-campus parties or the bars downtown.” “A lot of students spend their time in class, but every night of the week there is a party to go to,” explains a student.
