Admissions
Overview
From The School
ECU's MBA admissions is rather straightforward and streamlined to the point you'll get a response back from the College of Business graduate school 24 hours after the application is marked as complete.
The admission decision is based on a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, satisfying minimum GPA and entrance exam scores as noted below:
- undergraduate GPA of 2.7 AND
- GMAT score of 450 or greater or approved entrance exam waiver AND
- At least 950 points in this formula: (200 x GPA) + GMAT.
- Applicants may submit a GRE score in lieu of a GMAT score. GRE scores will be converted to GMAT scores using ETS's GRE Comparison Tool for Business Schools. Usually, a 149 on the verbal component and 149 on the analytical component convert to a 450 on the GMAT.

The ECU MBA is truly a program where you create a schedule that works with your life, alongside the support and guidance of a dedicated advisor. You can set your own pace throughout the program – taking between one to five courses each semester. You can even take a semester or more off if needed.
Courses may be taken in any order, provided prerequisites are met. And because all the foundation and CBK courses are offered EVERY fall, spring, and summer, you won't be waiting on us to offer the courses you need!
MBA students can choose from one of 13 graduate certificates to focus their MBA studies.

Academic Programs
Unlike most MBA programs, there are no "hidden" prerequisites to our MBA courses. The program is a maximum of 18 courses, or 54 semester hours. It provides an engaging and flexible education in the theory and practice of business management – exposing you to a range of subjects, including economics, marketing, accounting, finance, strategy, operations management, information systems, and supply chain management. These courses are divided into three categories: foundation, common body of knowledge and electives.

Special Academic Programs
ECU has one MBA program for all MBA students, regardless of enrollment status or method of delivery. Instead of specialty MBAs, students can choose from one of 13 graduate certificates to replace the electives component of their curriculum. When students graduate, they receive two diplomas – one for the MBA and one for the certificate. Some popular certificate tracks include finance, marketing, business analytics, project management, health care management, and sport management.

Students Say
East Carolina requires a number of foundation classes, such as Financial and Managerial Accounting and Financial Management, but students who studied business as an undergraduate can have these requirements waived if they took similar courses and received a B or higher. All students must take eight common body of knowledge courses that provide a solid foundation in business and three elective courses that allow them to focus on areas of their choice. Students may choose to take four electives toward a certificate in an area they want to specialize in. Current offerings include Business Analytics, Health Care Management, Finance and Management Information Systems, Marketing, and Project Management.
Professors at East Carolina get high marks. The “strong” and “challenging” faculty members are “genuinely concerned with their students’ success in the program,” and really “push them to get better.” They are accessible outside of class, and students can “build real relationships with them.” One student explains that a “professor put me in touch with professional networking organizations. Another put me in touch with a professor outside my program, who had insight into an aspect of business I am interested in.” Professors definitely “expect hard work and high professionalism from each student,” and those interested in East Carolina should be prepared to devote themselves to their studies. One online student who also works full time says, “My life revolves around class assignments, cases, group work, and other obligations. This program is not for the faint of heart!” East Carolina’s combination of a demanding, but flexible academic program, dedicated professors, and enthusiastic students make for a great experience and is why so many people think the school offers a great “bang for the buck.”

Campus Life
From The School
The East Carolina University's College of Business MBA program does not do cohorts or require minimum work experience.
Eighty-five percent of our MBA students work full-time and are enrolled part time. These students average two classes per semester and still have the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with fellow students who come from varied career paths.
Students Say
The campus itself is nice and has “great places to study and to wind down” and offers lots of “great extracurricular activities.” The football games are popular and “always a whole lot of fun.” However, as many students work full time and have family obliga- tions, not everyone has time to participate in campus life, so those looking to actively socialize may have to look beyond the MBA program. Luckily, the Graduate Business Association organizes a lot of activities, such as networking programs with local business leaders and recruiters, as well as professional development seminars and social nights. Many departments, such as Accounting, Finance, and Management, have their own student organizations, and the school also has chapters of two national honor societies, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi.
